How the split is calculated

The exact math behind every family's share.

Carve turns "ice cost + your fee + who's on the ice" into an exact per-family charge. All money is exact to the cent; remainders are distributed so shares always sum to the total.

The rules

  • Ice divides across billable skaters — or by capacity if you chose I cover empty seats as your empty-seat rule.
  • Coach fee:
    • Per skater → each skater carries the fee.
    • Flat → the fee splits evenly across the group.
  • Siblings (same family) share one ice portion but each carry a fee, combined into a single family charge.
  • Absent / late cancel — mark a skater Absent and the split recomputes across who remains. Your empty-seat rule decides who absorbs the gap. Already-paid families are never re-billed.

Empty-seat rule, side by side

Rule Who pays for empty seats You get
Split among present The skaters who showed up Always made whole; present families pay a bit more when seats are empty
I cover empty seats You (the coach) Present families pay a fixed per-capacity share; predictable for parents

Worked example

$250 ice, $60/skater fee, 4 unrelated skaters, split among present:

Ice per family = $250 / 4 = $62.50
Fee per family = $60.00
Family share = $122.50

If one is marked Absent (and you split among present), the remaining 3 each absorb more ice: $250 / 3 = $83.33 ice + $60 fee = $143.33. Already-paid families keep their original $122.50.
